Mexico: Church roof collapses in Tamaulipas
Nine worshippers have been killed and a further 49 are injured after a church roof collapsed in Northern Mexico during Sunday mass.
The Santa Cruz parish community in Ciudad Madero is shellshocked as they bury the dead and tend to the wounded.
Among the dead or injured were at least three children.
The injured were transported to seven different hospitals in the southern zone of the State of Tamaulipas, where they are currently receiving medical care.
The horrific incident occurred around 3.18pm and was captured on a nearby security camera.
Approximately 100 worshippers were inside the church and witnesses said baptisms were taking place.
Social media channels were flooded with videos depicting the immediate aftermath of the collapse.
In the footage, brave individuals rushed to the scene to help rescue those trapped amid cries of a baby.
The video showed the desperate efforts of bystanders trying to remove debris and communicate with those buried beneath.

Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended his sympathies to the affected families and the community.
Via his Facebook account, he assured that security and civil protection forces were actively responding to the situation. He also directed government officials and health sector authorities to coordinate rescue efforts on-site.
Father Angel Vargas, the priest who was officiating the mass, was visibly distraught after the church’s collapse. He said: “Those of us who are left behind will suffer for the rest of our lives.”
Father Vargas also expressed gratitude to those who had sent aid, and mentioned that he would officiate a mass to remember all affected.

With the situation evolving, Governor Anaya confirmed the discovery of ten deceased individuals and the rescue of 60 survivors.
The Governor also confirmed the identities of the victims which included five women, two men, and three minors, including a one-year-old baby.
Authorities are investigating what the cause may be.
