A tapas bar is delighting its customers by giving them discounts for their smiles, patience and kindness.
Tres 14 Tapas & Cafe is located in the popular tourist destination of Torremolinos on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
And the owner Eric Guibet says although the money off only add up to five cents (about half a UK penny) that it’s going down an absolute storm with customers, which include many Brits.
Spanish newspaper SUR reports: “It is a symbolic gesture for sure.
“We are talking about five cents. ‘But it all adds up.’

“And beyond the savings – which is also appreciated – the aim of this tapas bar in Torremolinos is to win the sympathy of its diners, ‘and for them to leave with a good taste in the mouth’.”
The discount of one cent is rewarded for a customers’ smiles, patience, kindness, generosity and a positive recommendation.
The article added: “The surprise comes when you ask for the bill. At that moment, when they check it, many tables suddenly break into smiles.”
They say that Guibet says his practice has had a “very positive” impact on his clientele.
And he’s right – with the restaurant coming out highly rated on TripAdvisor.

One client said: “Excellent food, excellent prices and all round amazing little place.”
They added: “We will certainly be back at this restaurant in the future.”
Another said: “Very friendly staff. Exceptional. Great food. Highly recommended. We had an excellent time here. Nothing was too much trouble. Will certainly return.”
“Excellent food, couldn’t fault the service, friendly, polite and lastly great value for money, what else could you want.
“Easy to see why it’s rated so highly. We’ll be back, definitely,” wrote another.
Talking to SUR, the owner explained that he was inspired by a restaurant in Barcelona that thanks customers in advance for their reviews.
He said: “They thanked their diners in advance for recommending them, but they didn’t give them a discount. I thought that this small discount would be funny and have more impact.
“That’s how I decided to add it. If we have a bad day, which we sometimes do, they’re more forgiving as well.”
Guibet has been running the bar since 2020.
