The huge claims Israel made as it tries to prove it didn’t fire hospital rocket

Yesterday evening (October 17), reports came in from Gaza’s health ministry, that said a strike had hit the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza city.

Hamas say that Israel are to blame for the attack, in which 500 Palestinains had allegedly been killed.

Israel, however, have ‘categorically denied’ involvement, and instead point the blame to Palestinians themselves.

Since the attack, which occured at 6.59pm last night, Israel have made a string of claims, which they say proves Palestinains were behind the rocket.

After the initial news of the attack gained global traction, Israel Defence Forces (IDF)’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) released a statement saying: “Following an analysis by the IDF’s operational systems, a barrage of rockets was launched toward Israel, which passed in the vicinity of the hospital, when it was hit.

“According to intelligence information from a number of sources we have, Islamic Jihad terrorist organization is responsible for the failed rocket launch that hit the hospital.”

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli foreign minister then said: “The entire world should know: It was barbaric terrorists in Gaza that attacked the hospital in Gaza, and not the IDF. Those who brutally murdered our children also murder their own children.”

Today, US president Joe Biden has met with Netanyhu. Biden supported claims made by the Israeli foreign minister, stating that the ‘other team’ were to blame for the attack.

The IDF then released footage on their X account, which they claim shows a rocket ‘aimed at Israel’ failing, and falling onto Gaza, where the Al Ahli hospital is. They claim that this ‘proves’ the rocket was fired by the Palestinain Islamic Jihad.

This morning, Wednesday October 18, the official Israel twitter account released an audio, in which they claim two Hamas militants can be heard discussing the attack. In the call, one alleged militant says ‘I’m telling you this is the first time that we see a missile like this falling and so that’s why we are saying it belongs to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.’

Mark Regev, the senior advisor to Benjamin Netanyahu has repeated the Israeli military’s claim that a rocket fired by Palestinian Islamic Jihad is most likely to blame.

“The statistics are clear,” he alleged to Sky News

“In past rounds of fighting, some 33 per cent of Islamic Jihad rockets fired at Israel fell short and landed in Gaza. Our intelligence is reporting to us that there was Islamic Jihad fire over the vicinity of the hospital and apparently a rocket malfunctioned and hit the hospital.

“We had a documented case of this in the last round of fighting in 2021 where everyone said Israel had hit a target and killed an innocent family.”
