Met Office pinpoints where snow could fall next week

Britain can brace itself for the first cold snap of winter with the Met Office revealing where could see snow next week.

The first widespread frost of the season that is expected to blanket much of England and Wales this weekend is an indicator that colder weather is on its way – and the Met Office predicts temperatures could plummet imminently, with the cold weather bringing snow with it.

The Met Office predicts lows of-5C could hit parts of rural southern England from early next week. The national weather agency also expects this "colder than average" weather to continue into December.

The Met Office forecast for Wednesday, November 29, to Friday, December 8, pinpoints where snow is on the cards. It states: "Any sleet and snow showers would be most likely to affect northern and eastern coastal districts."

However, the white stuff might not just be restricted to those placed. It continues: "There remains a chance of more widespread snow spreading up from the south during at least the first part of this period, should this occur strong winds or even gales are possible across many parts, especially the south."

The Met Office also predicts that while the cold snap could linger, around December 8 cloud and rain from the Atlantic could bring warmer weather.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris previously suggested Brits are facing two weather possibilities next week. He said "the most likely" outcome for the back end of next week is that rain slowly travels east.

He caveated this with: "However, there is a chance that a more active weather system arrives from the southwest, which would bring more widespread rain, stronger winds, and the potential for more significant snowfall should the air over the UK become sufficiently cold ahead of it."
