Gangs’ indiscriminate snipers and ‘collective’ rapes ‘terrorise’ lawless Haiti

Warring gangsters tightening their grip on the Caribbean nation of Haiti using rooftop snipers and mass rape, a terrifying United Nations report has warned.

The sound of indiscriminatesniper fire is masked only by blood-curdling screams and the stench of burning corpses in the capital city ofgang-plagued Haiti.

War-torn and desperate, the nation is descending even further into chaos with the violence spreading from Port-au-Prince to other major cities. Haiti has seen a significant increase in the number of killings, kidnappings and rapes in the past few months, according to a new United Nations (UN) report.

Blood-thirsty gangs are tightening their grasp on the nation with violence spiking as the leader of the brutal G9 group, Jimmy ‘Barbecue’ Cherizer pledged to overthrow the government. In turn, machete-carryingvigilante groupshave formed, which go around on a gang-busting witch hunt, looking to take back control from the thugs.

Even those who wee suspected gangsters were beaten mercilessly in the street. But in turn, anyone who opposes the ruthless criminal organisations will likely be sliced open with machetes, shot dead or burnt alive, a local woman told Human Rights Watch.

On Wednesday, Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, noted that there had been 2,728 intentional killings recorded between October 2022 and June 2023. This includes 247 women, 58 boys and 20 girls. Another 1,500 people had been abducted over the past year – including 55 kids.

“Gang-related violence has continued to increase in intensity and brutality, with gangs expanding their control within and beyond Port-au-Prince,” he said.

The UN is urging the international community to provide security and financial aid.
