Thieves take more than $700,000 worth of rare wines
Dramatic footage shows the moment 2.2million litres of red wine floods the streets of a small Portuguese town.
A rapid stream of red wine is seen racing down a quiet street in the coastal town of São Lourenco do Bairro on Sunday.
Two tanks belonging to the local Levira Distillery burst, sending a tsunami of liquor rushing down a steep hill and into the peaceful town.
Local officials set off an environmental alert and rushed to divert the wine and prevent it from contaminating a nearby river.
The Anadia Fire Department successfully blocked off the overflowing wine from the Certima River, running the stream safely into a nearby field instead, according to local media.

Levira was forced to apologised after a basement in a house near its distillery was flooded with wine.
It said: “We assume full responsibility for the costs associated with cleaning and repairing the damage, having teams available to do so immediately.
“We are committed to resolving this situation as quickly as possible.”
Levira dredged the land that had been completely soaked by the floods of wine.
A clip of the incident has sparked a social media frenzy as intrigued viewers flooded the comment section.
One X (formerly Twitter) user quipped: ”My inner boozer is crying alligator tears.”
Another joked: “Simple problem, simple solution. Fill your cups up and take the day off work, it’s Friday on a Monday!”
While a third wrote: “Ouch, gotta be expensive.”

While wine contains antioxidants that might benefit the heart and blood circulation, health experts say drinking more than around two 5-ounce glasses daily can be unsafe.
Consuming more than this can lead to blackouts, drowsiness, trouble walking, vomiting, and other major health issues in the short term.
Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol on a consistent basis also has long-term health complications and can lead to liver failure, certain types of cancer and addiction problems.
