A horrifying video has captured the moment two people were struck down by the same lightning at a beach in Mexico. Another person was left injured in the incident.
The footage, which is going viral on social media with millions of views, was captured on a beach in Aquila, in southwest Michoacan, Mexico. It shows a first person being hit by a bolt of lightning as another person, who was standing nearby, was hit by the same bolt
Mexican authorities have since confirmed that two people who were fatally hit by the lightning were a tourist and a hammock seller. The first person, which reports say was a woman, died on the spot.

However, a man was said to be the second victim, also died. Although, he passed away after being taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Reports say a third person was injured in the incident and that they survived. People have since expressed their condolences for the families of the dead and said they were shocked at the images.
It is a common misconception that lightning never strikes the same spot twice. It does, in fact, strike the same place repeatedly, sometimes in quick succession, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The news comes after a charity worker who survived a 950million volt lightning strike opposite the White House spke out about her road to recovery. Amber Escudero-Kontostathis, 28, was in Washington DC for her birthday when six bolts of lightning hit the spot she was standing on in the space of half a second.
The freak weather event killed three other people, who have been identified as Brooks Lambertson, 29, a vice-president at City National Bank, and James and Donna Mueller, 76 and 75. The group were visiting the capital for their 56th wedding anniversary and sheltered under a tree from the summer storm.
