The bodies of two missing Kansas women were found in eastern Colorado on Wednesday, according to Kansas police.
Linda Estrada, 44, and Amy Ford, 39, of Emporia, Kansas were identified by the city’s police department as the two people whose remains were found by law enforcement in rural eastern Colorado on Wednesday.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation announced Friday the agency was assisting the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office in an investigation into the remains of two people found south of Eads. The agency did not identify the people found, referring to the Kiowa County Coroner’s Office.
Estrada was reported missing on Sept. 11 and Ford was reported missing shortly after, Emporia police said in a news release Thursday.
During the investigation, police discovered that Estrada and Ford had been together in Colorado the previous weekend.
Investigators used cell phone data and security videos to track Estrada and Ford through Colorado, leading to eastern Colorado and western Kansas.
Colorado law enforcement used dogs, airplanes, drones and manpower to search for Estrada and Ford for five days, according to Emporia police. Kansas detectives traveled to eastern Colorado on Monday to coordinate with local police, and Estrada and Ford were found at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.
A person of interest in the case is in custody on unrelated charges, according to Emporia police, who did not provide the person’s name because of the ongoing investigation in Colorado.
