Hezbollah’s chilling threats after Israel killing sparks fears of war spreading

Hezbollah, a terrorist group based in Lebanon, has pledged to retaliate against what they describe as “brutal aggression” by Israel.

It comes in the wake of the death of two journalists from the Lebanese TV channel Al-Mayadeen during Israeli attacks on the southern village of Tayr Harfa.

In a statement on Tuesday, Hezbollah condemned the killing of journalists, including the recent attack on Reuters photojournalist Issam Abdallah.

The group stressed the role of the media in exposing what they call “horrific crimes against civilians”, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

Hezbollah called on international media and humanitarian organisations to condemn the attacks and exert pressure on the Israeli government to halt its assaults on media professionals and civilians, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati strongly condemned the Israeli attacks, stating that they demonstrate Israel’s aim to silence media that exposes its actions.

Lebanese Defence Minister Maurice Slim called for a unified and effective Arab and international stance against ongoing Israeli aggression.

The casualties include Farah Omar and Rabih Al-Maamari, a reporter and a photographer from Al-Mayadeen, respectively, who were covering events in southern Lebanon.

They were killed by two Israeli drones. Another civilian, Hussein Akil, also lost his life in the incident, according to Al-Manar, a Lebanese TV channel.

It comes after the death of Issam Abdallah on October 13, a Lebanese photojournalist working for Reuters, who was killed while covering Israeli attacks in the southern village of Alma al-Shaab. The Lebanese Foreign Ministry submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council on October 14 against Israel for its attacks on journalists.

Tensions in the Lebanon-Israel border region have been escalating for over six weeks, triggered by Hezbollah firing rockets towards Shebaa Farms in support of Hamas attacks on Israel. In response, Israeli forces fired heavy artillery into several areas in southeastern Lebanon. The situation remains tense, raising concerns about the potential for further escalation.
