The European Union has put its funding of Palestine on hold following the terror attacks committed by Hamas on Israelis last week.
All payments from the EU to Palestine have been suspended with the fund placed under review, according to EU Enlargement Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi.
The political union’s development budget totalled €691 million and its suspension follows an announcement from the German government that it too is halting its €125mn aid programme to Palestine.
Mr Várhelyi wrote on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter: “The scale of terror and brutality against Israel and its people is a turning point. There can be no business as usual.
“All payments [are] immediately suspended. All projects put under review. All new budget proposals, including for 2023 [are] postponed until further notice.
“Incitement to hatred, violence and glorification of terror have poisoned the minds of too many,” he added. “We need action and we need it now.”
