AI has finally settled the great Jaffa Cake debate by insisting they are definitely cakes, not biscuits.
ChatGPT claims this is because they become hard when stale, which is “a characteristic of cakes rather than biscuits”. It was backed by main rival Google’s Bard, which said: “Jaffa Cakes are cake, not biscuit.”
Both referred to a legal decision in 1991 when McVitie’s, which has been making the snack since 1927, went to court to argue Jaffa Cakes should be classified as cakes. The firm won its case after being challenged over its labelling by customs officers. ChatGPT said: “The court ruled in favour of McVitie’s… In the eyes of the law, Jaffa Cakes are cakes.”

The debate has been described as one of the greatest causes of rows among families. Many believe they are biscuits because they’re traditionally served with tea and are found in the biscuit aisle in supermarkets.
It's not just sweet snacks that AI is wading in on. Last week we reported how chatbot, Bard gave reasons as to why the chicken crossed the road.
Bard said: “Chickens are simple creatures with relatively few needs and desires. For a chicken, the most basic goal is to survive and reproduce. Crossing the road is a simple task that can potentially lead to greater opportunities for food, shelter, and mates. In short, the chicken crosses the road because it is the most logical way to achieve its goals."
