An Adams County car crash this week that left one pedestrian dead involved a deputy, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office disclosed on Thursday. The deputy’s name has not been publicly released.
The crash occurred at 2:57 a.m. Wednesday on North Federal Boulevard near Interstate 76. The deputy was conducting routine patrol work and was driving northbound on Federal Boulevard, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The deputy then hit the pedestrian on the road at the 5800 block of Federal Boulevard, authorities said.
The deputy stopped and started to give medical care to the pedestrian, but the person died, according to the sheriff’s office.
Colorado State Patrol troopers also responded to the scene to investigate.
The crash led to an hours-long closure Wednesday morning of northbound Federal Boulevard at I-76 and southbound at 60th Avenue.
The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the incident because it involves a deputy, as is protocol, and the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Sgt. Adam Sherman said the investigation is still in its early stages and no fault has yet been assigned in the crash.
