A mum claim she’s discovered the ultimate item that will improve your travelling experience with children. According to the mumfluencer, there's a £3.99 tape can help to keep children entertained, organised and happy while flying or travelling on holiday.
The mum, who posts videos on Instagram @nicholaknox, explained that painter’s tape is her "secret weapon" because it can help fix a host of problems, especially when she's travelling with her two children. That's because she uses it for fun games, keeping the kids safe, and helping to prevent surprising sounds.
The good news is that you can buy painter’s tape for around £3.99 a roll on Amazon – so it's a pretty cheap hack to try out.

On Instagram, she said: "Save this for your next plane ride with kids! Painter's tape guys – I swear to you. It’s great on the plane but also on vacation. Label the kids' cups, a bandaid for when your toddler 'really needs one', taping over locks and drawers you don’t want them getting into. The list goes on. It’s forever the 'weird' thing I bring on trips. If you can think of another cool use please comment with it below because I love it!!"
In a video clip, Nichola showed herself using the tape to tape a napkin to her child on the plane in a makeshift bib for eating. She also used it to block buttons and other spots to stop her little ones messing around with the seat settings.
She used the tape again to create a snack holder on the plane and even to make a new cup holder on the tray table so her glass didn’t fall. She created games like a toy hide and seek, 'rescue the toy’, a troll swing and window stickers which the children loved. She even made a bridge for her little one to play with their truck on. Plus, when they arrived at the hotel she taped down tracks which the kids crawled to follow helping them to blow off some energy.
Some commenters questioned whether the tape wouldn’t be a nightmare for the staff to clean up. But, Nichola has plenty of experience in that department and said: "I clean it all up. I was a flight attendant for a long time so my seats are always left spotless."
Another person added: "It’s painters tape… it doesn’t leave mess." This is because unlike sticky tape, painter’s tape doesn’t usually leave any residue behind when removed.
A mum in the comments suggested using the tape to "tape contractor garbage bags over windows for blacking out sleeping rooms and taping over light switches you don’t want them playing with". Another suggested using it for "covering automatic flush sensors on public toilets". The sound of the flush going off at unexpected times can be scary or startling for little ones making them more likely to cry.
A third said: "I really like this idea and opportunity to exercise some creative thinking! More uses [include] at the hotel: A ‘fun circle’ to play in. Hop scotch. Time out area. Mark the spot for who can throw something the farthest."
One mum suggested: "Genius! While travelling I use it to baby proof hotel rooms, stick a bunch of TP to sharp corners, tape electric outlets, tape drawers closed."
Other travellers praised the hack in the comments. One person said: "This is incredible. Huge brain energy. It potentiates their creativity, is ecological, mess free, and useful too. Incredible mom right there."
While another added: "If I was sitting with you I would totally be participating in all the fun tape-based shenanigans! This is brilliant."
