Hidden gem coastal town named as ‘brilliant staycation’ spot

Summer may be over, but many Britons will be staycationing in the UK right through the autumn.

While the weather may be cooling down, the coast is a wonderful treat even when it’s chilly, so why not head to pretty Lymington for your next UK holiday?

Jayne, Senior Manager at New Forest Cottages, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about why this cute coastal town is the place to be.

She said: “The sheer diversity of things to do, coupled with ‘olde worlde’ character and charm, sees Lymington on the southern shores of the New Forest National Park, regularly ranking among the top places to live in the UK – and a brilliant staycation location.”

According to the expert, this place has something for everyone, children, adults, adventurers and loungers.

She said: “Visitors rub shoulders with bougie sailors from the town’s two large marinas when visiting the weekly market on the Georgian high street, which is lined with independent shops and boutiques.

“Little lanes and roads lead to a mish-mash of pretty architecture spanning hundreds of years.

“From the cobbled Quay, you can take fishing trips, mini cruises, and trips to the Isle of Wight.

“Day trips and attractions include Peppa Pig World and Longdown Activity Farm for the kids, Beaulieu, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Snowtrax, Monkey World and Bovington Tank Museum.”

Animal lovers can catch a glimpse of the “famous free-roaming ponies and donkeys” in the pretty villages.

For those who love sightseeing on staycation, Jayne advised: “A short drive along the cliff-flanked coastline takes you past castles, Nature Reserves, fossil-filled beaches and award-winning soft sandy ones with fantastic views across the bay, where dolphins and seals can be seen playing.”

She continued: “Holidaying in Lymington means it’s easy to combine relaxation with learning a new skill or hobby.” Regardless of your passions and interests, it seems that there is really something for everyone.

Jayne said: “You won’t have to venture far to have a go at outdoorsy activities like archery, axe throwing, bushcraft, escorted canoe and kayaking tours, plus water skiing, paddle sports and sailing.

“More sedate classes include alpaca walking, painting, pottery, ceramics, wood turning – even making your own signature perfume.
And for History Buffs, some fascinating town tours in Lymington and Christchurch are hosted by local historians.”

Foodies are also in the right place: “The region has an exciting culinary scene with PYO fruit and veg farms, microbreweries, independent producers and vineyards supplying farm shops and independent stores, local cafes, good-eating pubs and amazingly good restaurants in Lymington as well as towns and villages.”
