American Airlines plans to make high-speed WiFi available on nearly 500 two-class regional aircraft.
American is working to extend its relationship with service provider Intelsat and plans to begin installing the upgraded service on regional jets in 2024. The carrier anticipates it will take about two years to complete the project.
The planes that fly regional routes for American are operated by regional partners, some of which are owned by American (Envoy Air, Piedmont Airlines and PSA Airlines). Air Wisconsin, SkyWest Airlines and Republic Airways also fly American regional routes.
American currently has more than 900 mainline aircraft with satellite connections.
