Rishi Sunak makes Sturgeon 'joke' in conference speech
Rishi Sunak tore into Nicola Sturgeon today, using his conference speech to rib her ongoing legal troubles.
Speaking to the Tory Party faithful in Manchester, Mr Sunak joked: “Nicola Sturgeon wanted to go down in the history books as the woman who broke up our country”.
“Now it looks like she may go down for very different reasons!”
The gag, which the audience loved, came amid claims from the Prime Minister that the United Kingdom is stronger now than for 25 years.
“Today, our Union is the strongest it has been in a quarter of a century. The forces of separatism are in retreat across our country.”

The nationalists also came under fire from Penny Mordaunt, whose barnstorming speech this morning took Tory conference by storm.
Ms Mordaunt, used to taking on the SNP in viral House of Commons spats, said Keir Starmer will not stand up for Britain, but “lie down”.
“Lie down in the street with Just Stop Oil. Lie down with the Lib Dems and the SNP. Lie down with Ed Davey – the man that makes Tim Farron look like a giant.
“Lie down with Humza Yousaf – the man that made Nicola Sturgeon look competent.”
She said she knows Sir Keir is not able to stand up to trade unions and Just Stop Oil.
“Why? Because he is not even capable of standing up to Mark Drakeford and his plans for an independent Wales – a 20mph independent Wales!”

Tory pleasure at Ms Sturgeon’s downfall was palpable throughout this week’s conference.
Party activists whooped and cheered earlier in the week when Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross delighted in Ms Sturgeon’s departure.
Mr Ross said: “Well conference, it’s been a pretty interesting year in Scottish politics!”
“I have more than a few things to update you on since we last met, in fact – I’m struggling to know where to begin – well let’s start here: Nicola Sturgeon is gone!
“Let me just repeat that – Nicola Sturgeon is gone!”
