Rishi Sunak appears to let slip when next general election will be in new video

Rishi Sunak appeared to drop a major hint on the date of the next general election in a new video.

The Prime Minister shared a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, marking a year in 10 Downing Street.

The 46-second clip listed achievements since Mr Sunak has been in power, as well as his five priorities.

It then added: “So what can a country achieve in 52 weeks? Watch this space.”

It suggests Mr Sunak may call a general election in exactly a year in autumn 2024.

There has been intense speculation over the date of the next national vote, which must be held before January 2025.

When Mr Sunak entered Downing Street on October 25 last year following the oustings of Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, the Conservatives were on average 17 points behind in opinion polls.

Fast forward 12 months and the Tories remain a similar distance behind Labour.

The PM must turn things around if he is to avoid being put into No 10 by his party, only to be voted out by the public at the first opportunity.
