Peter Mandelson gatecrashes GB News broadcast
Peter Mandelson gatecrashed a live GB News broadcast this morning to poke fun at the channel and declare himself a keen supporter.
The Lord of Darkness was touring the conference exhibition hall when he was spotted by political editor Christopher Hope, who beckoned him over for a chat.
The Blairite cheerleader championed Sir Keir Starmer’s five pledges, reeling them off as if he were still a frontline Labour spokesman.
Presenters put Lord Mandelson on the spot about why he was on the front row for Rachel Reeves’s speech yesterday, amid concerns over how much influence the former Blairite administration is having over the current Labour leadership.
He claimed he was “put there in order to show my support for Johnny Reynolds’s and Rachel Reeves’s speeches, which I did with great enthusiasm.

“I was put there with Sadiq Khan, we were like two bookends – I’ve never really seen myself as a bookend, but you know how the mighty have fallen. I’ve been reduced to being a stage prop!”
The former top Labour spinner also declared himself a surprise champion of GB News, saying he wants them to continue broadcasting.
However, he added this was primarily because he believed the channel to be sowing division within the Conservative Party.

He recounted the mood of the Tories ahead of the 1992 General Election: “In 1992 the Conservatives were still a fairly united fighting force under John Major.
“Chris Pattern was the party chair who was running a pretty good machine, he had a cabinet who were still hungry for power – not now, not with Rishi Sunak.
“They’re all like three different parties fighting each other as if they’re already in opposition, I mean you’ve got the centre-right Conservative Party which you associate with David Cameron, you’ve got the right wing which is headed up by Rishi Sunak and then you’ve got the further right Conservative Party trumpeted and supported by GB News!”
Amid consternation from the trio of presenters, Peter Mandelson clarified: “Oh I want GB News to keep going!
“They’re stirring the pot, they’re creating divisions within the Conservative Party, they’re undoing the Conservative Party, and very very timely it is too!”
Christopher Hope appreciated the banter, calling Lord Mandelson “so mischievous!”
