It&#8217;s a bustling place of industry and commerce, especially in textile manufacturing and exported cut flowers.<\/p>\n<p>Situated in a narrow valley, Medell\u00edn packs the punch of a city twice its size. Many visitors who have been to the city have given positive reviews about it on TripAdvisor.<\/p>\n<p>One user said: &#8220;Medellin is a city of contrasts. In the 80s and 90s it suffered from some of the world&#8217;s worst violence, but it is now a calm, comfortable, peaceful place, by and large. I see many more homeless people in Los Angeles where I live than I did in Medellin in March, 2009.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I actually spent seven years of my childhood living in Medellin, and many, many vacations visiting my family thereafter. The mountains gather like two arms around the length of the city, and you can get sublime views by riding the metro cables up both sides of the valley.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The metro is rated among the top three of the world for cleanliness, safety, and punctuality. I enjoyed walking around Manrique, a working class neighborhood that I would never have entered in the 80s and 90s because of its reputation for violence then. I still felt nervous, but it was just residual.
