Scotland gets more than its fair share of snow so its no surprise Scots take pride in naming their road gritters each winter \u2013 and this year's monikers really have people cracking up. <\/p>\n
Transport Scotland operates more than 200 gritters and in 2020 launched an appeal to name its fleet of gritters, which received more than 1,200 online entries.<\/p>\n
This year Scots exercised their creativity with the trucks covering 400 miles of Scotland's trunk roads from Glasgow to Dumfries and through to Ayr and Stranraer ending up with some extraordinary, and often hilarious, names.<\/p>\n

Some of the standout nicknames include Keanu Freeze, Gritney Spears, Double Snow 7, BFG [Big Friendly Gritter], Licence To Chill and Sir David Attenbrrrrrr.<\/p>\n
A live map of the gritters in action has gone viral on X, with Scots taking pride in the creative names and others expressing their sheer wonderment at them.<\/p>\n
Some have even declared it the best part of winter in Scotland, with @trevormwilson posting: "The best part about winter in Scotland \u2013 the live Gritter Tracker."<\/p>\n

"Please tell me these are genuinely the names of the Scottish gritter trucks," wrote Bookaholic Bex, to which Kate Henry replied: "Yup, they are! Nothing like the Scots sense of humour. Gritney Spears might be my favourite!"<\/p>\n
Another chimed in: "Woke up at 3 and for some reason, to pass the time, I\u2019m watching a Gritter Tracker from Scotland. Some cracking names here."<\/p>\n
A Harry Potter fan was very happy with the 'You\u2019re a Blizzard, Harry' and Lord Coldemort gritter names, while another added: "For a lighter laugh to brighten your day, look up the names given to the necessary diesel gritters in Scotland, like Gritter Thunberg, Gritney Spears!"<\/p>\n
