If you're looking for an island that boasts hot and sunny weather, incredible beaches, thermal springs and natural wonders, all alongside some brilliant hotels and restaurants, then you may want to add the island of Milos to your list.

Although most Brits will flock to the likes of Mykonos, Santorini and Rhodes when looking for escapes in the Greek islands, these hotspots can quickly become expensive and crowded during the peak season. While Milos isn't as famous as the others, it still has everything you could want from the sun-soaked weather to amazing food and scenery – only you won't have the crowds of tourists.

The island is regularly compared to the likes of Santorini and Mykonos thanks to its classic white-washed Cycladic villages, waterfront tavernas and picture-perfect green landscapes, but those aren't the only reasons to visit.

Adventurers won't be stuck twiddling their thumbs either as there's heaps to explore on the island. One must-visit spot is Sarakiniko which has been compared to the moon thanks to its limestone white rocks, and the nearby pebble beach which is a hit with those wanting to lay out a towel and bask in the sunshine.

One person who visited just outside of peak season wrote on Tripadvisor: "This beach is absolutely beautiful with crystal clear sea and a pebble and sand beach. We visited end of September and the beach was quiet and only 2 boats arrived from Parga with a handful of people. There is free parking and a couple of tavernas. Lots of sun beds ( 8 euros for 2) we visited several times during our holiday. Beautiful spot to watch the sunset too. The only thing I would say is that I can imagine it would be crowded during high season so would be a completely different experience."

Meanwhile the swim-friendly and clear waters that surround the island mean you can always find somewhere for a beach day, or you can take a boat trip out for a spot of snorkelling. Intrepid explorers may also want to add the Papafragas Caves to their list, which make up a gorgeous cove that looks like something out of a film.

One happy visitor on Tripadvisor wrote: "Facinating and stunning little beach! The climb down is not too steep or difficult, but the space on the beach is quite limited. We took a swim in the gorgeus water and climbed back up. This is a true must-see-beach of Milos!!!"

Another added: "Beautiful little beach in Milos. There is more than one way to get down to it – we took the easier route down which was not steep. There is no organised shelter on this beach but the cliffs and rocks can provide a bit of shade depending on the time of the day and if you secure a spot under. We got there around 12pm, and found ourselves a spot to park our stuff just a few steps away from the water. Unlike other pebbly beaches in Milos, this one isn't and is easy to get into, the water is calm and warm. Loved the time we spent swimming there!"

Then of course there are the island's golden sand beaches right by some local eateries and hotels, as well as plenty of coastal walks and trails if you want to take in the views.

Although there are no direct flights from the UK to Milos it's still fairly easy to get there because you can get the ferry from heaps of popular hotspots such as Athens, Santorini and Mykonos.
