Is it an optical illusion? Or a comic book? This peculiar cafe in South Korea will surely leave your head spinning for a second as you enter the restaurant to have a coffee.

Cafe Yeonnam-dong, known as Greem Cafe in Seoul opened in 2017 and everything inside from the decor to the furniture and crockery have a striped black-and-white cartoonish aesthetic.

The real-life cafe was intentionally designed and decorated to make sure its customer feels that they are inside a cartoon.

The cafe is said to have taken inspiration from the Korean TV hit W – Two Worlds, where the main characters can enter a fantasy webtoon world, MailOnline reported.

A video of the cafe has resurfaced online leaving the social media users shocked.

Shared by Science Girl on X, the caption reads, “There is a cafe in South Korea where everything is monochrome and like a drawing, making you feel like you are in a storybook. It’s called Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20”

The video has over 15.8 million views on X with many users flocking to the comment section of the post. One wrote: “Looks sketchy.”

Another said: “I wouldn’t be able to drink a sip in there. It makes me dizzy.”

One of the visitors who had been to the cafe wrote on TripAdvisor: “I saw this place on Instagram few months ago, so I decided to go, once in Seoul. It’s not really easy to reach it: once you get off to Metro Station, you have to walk about 20 minutes.

“It’s a really nice and, for sure, a unique place: it’s like having coffee in a comic! Food and coffee are ok, but nothing special.”

The design of Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20 creates a 2D optical illusion, that makes customers feel as though they have crossed dimensions into a comic book illustration.

Instagram influencers have jumped at the chance to have their picture taken inside, with even the cardboard food boxes having a black outline, looking like they’ve been drawn onto the setting.

The same goes for the coffee shop’s mugs, which give the illusion your hot drink is somewhat floating in a TV programme.
