A couple claim they "fell ill" after eating a McDonald's cheeseburger that was made the previous day.

Louis Andrews and his fiancee, Lauren Vinnicombe ordered a £36.79 meal via Deliveroo just after midnight to be delivered to their home in Exeter, Devon. After munching on a cheeseburger and chicken nuggets, they noticed the wrapper stated it had been prepared at 4.50pm the day before.

The packaging also showed the burger had been ordered via Just Eat rather than Deliveroo, indicating a possible mix-up. Both Louis and Lauren say they fell ill soon after eating the item.

Lauren, who works as a waitress, says she had to take three days off work. Louis claimed they "were very sick over the next two to three days" and the restaurant in nearby Marsh Barton "kept hanging the phone up" when they tried to complain.

The 30-year-old chef said: "When we rang the restaurant to understand how and why that food order was sat around for seven hours without being thrown out and delivered to us and what happened to our order, they wouldn't explain it to us.

"They then got rude and said it wasn't their fault and kept hanging up the phone on us.

"We tried to call Deliveroo and explain what had happened.

"I genuinely feel like they are trying to poison people through sheer incompetence and lack of staff training.

"When the food arrived we took the chicken nuggets out and microwaved them to share as we were so hungry due to waiting so long for the food to arrive.
