Chris Olivarez, the spokesperson for Texas Department of Public Safety, said it occurred &#8220;when the driver passed an 18-wheeler in a no-passing zone&#8221;, hitting a Chevy SUV head on.<\/p>\n<p>He said on X, (formerly known as Twitter):&#8221;[Texas DPS] is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on US 57 near Batesville.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The driver in a Honda passenger car from Houston suspected of human smuggling was evading from Zavala COSO when the driver passed an 18-wheeler in a no-passing zone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/78\/590x\/secondary\/5056534.jpg?r=1699485190566\"><\/p>\n<p>The lieutenant continued: &#8220;The driver drove head-on with a Chevy SUV, causing the vehicle to burst into flames, killing the driver and passenger from Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a result, five passengers, including the suspected smuggler of the Honda, were killed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Troopers confirmed several of the deceased are from Honduras. Identities will be released once the next of kin is notified.
