{"id":120614,"date":"2023-11-01T02:19:03","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T02:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yourclomid.com\/?p=120614"},"modified":"2023-11-01T02:19:03","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T02:19:03","slug":"surfer-feared-dead-after-being-dragged-under-by-14ft-great-white-shark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yourclomid.com\/world-news\/surfer-feared-dead-after-being-dragged-under-by-14ft-great-white-shark\/","title":{"rendered":"Surfer feared dead after being dragged under by 14ft great white shark"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Surfer bitten in the face by shark at New Smyrna Beach speaks out<\/h3>\n<p>A surfer is feared dead after being attacked by a great white shark on a popular beach in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The 55-year-old, whose identity has yet to be released, was targeted &#8220;from the side&#8221; by a 14-foot beast near Granite Rock, south of Streaky Bay, in southern Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The horrific incident unfolded at around 10.20pm on Tuesday in full of view of witnesses, who were also in the waters.<\/p>\n<p>Surfer Jeff Schmucker told 7 News: &#8220;It attacked him from the side. He went under once and came up again and went under again and that\u2019s the last the lad saw of him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Schmucker then hopped on a jetski to find the man and entered the path of the same great white, which he caught on film.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/78\/590x\/secondary\/5042915.jpg?r=1698802996860\"><\/p>\n<p>While Schmucker wasn&#8217;t successful in retrieving the victim&#8217;s body, he was able to find parts of the surfboard the man was riding.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And it was this discovery that led authorities to believe the man was killed.
