Shocked at the price of a humble pint at the pub? You’re not alone. The average price of a pint at a British pub is now a whopping £6.09.

While Iceland has Europe’s most expensive pints at £8.33, many London pubs aren’t far behind. But where are Europe’s cheapest pints?

Rosie Panter, travel expert at dealchecker, said: “Whilst the UK doesn’t have the highest average price for a pint in Europe, if you’re anything like me, you too will have felt personally victimised by the rising cost.

“For many the idea of a cheeky half or three is now limited to special occasions and vacations. As such it’s well worth considering holiday destinations where the cost is less prohibitive.

“Just don’t forget to also search out great deals on flights and accommodation so that you have even more spending money to enjoy your destination.”

Debrecen, Hungary

Debrecen, a city in northern Hungary, took the crown with Europe’s cheapest pints. At just 89p a pint, beer is sometimes cheaper than water in the Hungarian city.

Rosie said: “Expect elegant shops, a cultural centre filled with archaeological artefacts, and of course, stretches of bars and pubs where you can take advantage of great value drinks.”

Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife

A British favourite, Tenerife is home to Europe’s second cheapest pint. The Canary Island hotspot has beers for just £1.60 a pop.
