A thief was caught on CCTV face-planting the floor after he crawled through an extractor fan to raid a milkshake shop for cash.

Footage taken in a Bellshill business shows a thief pulling himself through the extractor fan on the side of the building and into the store front of For Fudge Shakes on Sunday, October 8, at around 9.50am.

He appears to slowly squeeze himself through the small gap and attempting to get down on a piece of furniture head first. But he suddenly loses his balance and hit the deck face first and took a minute to recover from the hard impact.

However, he soon got back up and pulled up his boxers and trousers before putting his hood up and raiding the store of its tip jar, money from the till, the charity donation box and some reserve cash, Glasgow Live reports.

Workers arrived at around 11.30am to discover the carnage and immediately rang the police who rushed to the premises at around 11.55am. No arrests have been made and enquiries are still ongoing.

One of the owners of the business told local media: "One of the managers came in the morning and noticed one of the extractor fan had been smashed through. Once he finally wormed his way through the space we can see him work on the till and look for other things.

"It's devastating, we have good, hardworking group of young people and some of them were very shaken up at the start of their shift. With the rising cost of everything right now and profit margins being squeezed, this is something we didn't need."

For Fudge Shakes opened its doors later on Sunday following the theft.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 11.55am on Sunday, 8 October, to a report of a break-in at a premises on Motherwell Road, Bellshill. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Those with information that could help track down the culprit can contact Police via 101 or For Fudge Shakes here.
