London boroughs are fighting back against Sadiq Khan’s Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) expansion with Transport for London (TfL) vans targeted in a new crackdown.

Bromley Council is taking the lead to stop TfL vans by fining officials who stop on the roadside to cash out motorists.

Last week, Bromley Council issued their first ticket against TfL after spotting a van mounting a kerb on September, 18.

The news was praised by Bromley councillor Simon Fawthrop who called on TfL to stop fining motorists.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: “I’m delighted the regime of fining ULEZ vans has kicked in, hopefully they will now stop their illegal activities to catch unsuspecting vehicles.”

More info

Bromley is not the only council taking action with Harow confirming they would also fine TfL vans if they broke laws.

A spokesperson for the London Borough of Harrow told Express.co.uk: “Any vehicles found parked illegally in our borough face a penalty charge notice.

“This includes parking on pavements, blocking access and parking on grass verges including ULEZ enforcement vehicles.”

It is understood the Mayor deployed around 20 TfL vans across Greater London to fill in holes left by destroyed ULEZ cameras.

Vandals, who dub themselves the ‘blade runners’, have ripped down the detectors in frustration at having to pay £12.50 per day to use their non-compliant cars.

But, Transport for London accepted they backed the fines and would pay the charge issued in Bromley.

A TfL spokesperson said: “TfL fully supports the use of highway authority powers to enforce against parking in unauthorised locations.

“We have reminded the driver of this vehicle regarding their responsibilities and our contractor, who will be paying the penalty charge notice.”

Source: Read Full Article

Mark Harper explains why Sadiq Khan is wrong on ULEZ London boroughs are fighting back against Sadiq Khan’s Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) expansion with […]

[7
