The average cost of a pint and a kebab has been revealed across the country and unsurprisingly it is bad news for Londoners.

Data consultancy CGA surveyed 9,000 pubs in 865 parts of the UK and found booze costs nearly three times more in the capital than it does in parts of the North, MailOnline reports.

London has eight out of 10 of the most expensive areas for pints. The other two were Virginia Water in Surrey and Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire – both just outside the capital.

Pints in London typically cost more than £6. The dearest average found was £6.63 in west London. Meanwhile up North the picture is very different. In Consett, County Durham, drinkers pay just £2.65 for a pint of their favourite tipple.

Paul Bolton, head of GB drinks at the CGA, said: "We definitely see a North-South divide, with prices for a pint in London and the South-East way above those in the central and northern regions in terms of average price of a pint.

"It is not all black and white – certain pub chains for example are able to offer cheaper pints based on their business model, regardless of where they are.

"Also, a pint in the centre of Manchester is likely to cost significantly more than one in Hyde just seven miles away, due to the variation of the cost of doing business in both of those areas."

As for kebabs, the MailOnline reports things also look bleak for Londoners who have to fork out roughly double for their favourite post-night out snack compared to those in the North.

People across London can expect to pay at least £8, with prices in Greenwich going as high as £13.90. Just outside the capital in Surrey, prices can reach to around £12.

The biggest bargains up North came in Normanton, West Yorkshire at just £5 and Blaydon-on-Tyne, Gateshead at £5.50.
