An "epic mistake" saw a NATO country dramatically declar war on a surprised Vladimir Putin during a summit after a translator made a clanger.<\/p>\n
Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan was reciting opening remarks at a summit in Sochi when the official interpreter cocked up and said there was a war between Turkey and Russia.<\/p>\n
The Russian dictator appeared momentarily nonplussed as the interpreter translated the president's words. \u201cThere is war between Russia and Turkey,\u201d announced the Turkish-Russian translation of Erdo\u011fan's remarks.<\/p>\n

Turkey is a NATO state so such a war would engulf the entire world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current situation between Ukraine and Russia\u2026.This is the backdrop of this visit," said Erdogan, as he made clear he wanted to act as a broker over the grain deal to feed the world's poorest nations.<\/p>\n
"And your invitation – we are glad to have received this invitation. My delegation is glad to have received this invitation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Telegram channel Crimean Wind called out an \u201cepic mistake\u201d by the official interpreter at the summit between Turkey, a NATO member, and Russia.<\/p>\n
It was unclear if the male interpreter was Russian or Turkish.<\/p>\n
The official record of Erdogan\u2019s remarks show that he did not make the mistake – it was the interpreter\u2019s.<\/p>\n

It was a rare visit for a foreign leader for an isolated Putin ostracised over his bloody war with Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Russia is ready to supply up to one million tons of grain at a preferential price through Turkey to the poorest countries, said the dictator.<\/p>\n
Erdogan, 69, agreed to travel to Russia after Putin, 70, refused to go abroad to Turkey.<\/p>\n
Putin used his press conference to claim he had been cheated by the West over the grain export deal across the Black Sea – a familiar charge.<\/p>\n
"As usual\u2026 it often happens this way with our Western partners, they cheated on us again," said the dictator. "And didn\u2019t do as promised – again."<\/p>\n
