Influencers are making a mint from social media but not all of them will know they are earning their owners millions.

New research by VioVet has estimated the jaw-dropping sums of cash "petfluencers" are bringing in over their lifetime.

Dogs, cats and even foxes with massive followings have been ranked for their potential earnings through big money brand partnerships.

Posting just one snap a week would be enough for the highest-earning animal, a pomeranian called JiffPom, to cash in £17 million over his lifetime, according to the research.

Unfortunately for Staffordshire Bull Terrier owners, the study found it is the lowest-earning dog breed but could still bring home a cool £75,000.

Leading veterinary supplies retailer and onsite veterinarians, VioVet looked how much the world's most popular mutts, moggies, and everything in between can earn over a lifetime just on Instagram.

They calculated how much each petfluencer could earn in a lifetime and compared it to the cost of ownership including food and medication for common ailments.

Thanks to his 10.7 million followers, JiffPom also has the best return of investment of the dogs on Instagram – raking in a whopping 66454% but the highest overall ROI goes to a fox.

Juniperfoxx has an unbelievable 183869% return of investment, making no doubt for one very comfortable owner.

The top five pets on the Instagram rich list according to VioVet are @jiffpom whose owners can charge £26,673.36 per endorsed post.

@itsdougthepug is second in line with his 4 million followers affording £9,975.75 per picture on Instagram.

Named after her striking half black, half ginger face, Venus the two face cat tops VioVet's charts for the highest-paid cats on Instagram.

In the miscellaneous petfluencer category behind Juniper the fox is monkey @realdiddykong whose ROI is comparatively low at 562% but will still earn around £4.5 million over his lifetime.

Pigs, a hedgehog, Shetland pony, squirrel, cow and chinchilla make up the category's rich list.

A spokesman for VioVet said: "Here at VioVet, we love to see animals taking centre stage and it is amazing to see the happiness that these 'Petfluencers' bring to people's lives on a daily basis.

"Animals can evoke strong positive emotions with people, so it's no surprise to us that brands are seeing the potential in connecting with customers through pets! Most people have a soft spot for 'cute' content, and these pets certainly fill that niche!"
