Woman fuming over ‘disgusting’ Haribo sweets after chewing on large rubber chunk

A fuming woman has slammed Haribo after she found an “absolutely disgusting” chunk of rubber in her Rainbow Strips and was forced to abandon the whole bag.

Shantelle bit into what she presumed was a rogue sweet before realising the grim discovery.

The 30-year-old says she is now completely “put off” the popular confectionary brand and is far from happy with the company’s response.

She fumed: "I was looking forward to eating my packet of Haribos when they arrived in a Tesco delivery from St Stephen's.

“At first I thought the foreign object was just another sweet that had been put in the wrong packet so I nibbled on the end of it before realising it wasn't a sweet at all.

"It was quite a large piece of white rubber and was clearly a health and safety risk. I was completely put off eating any so left the full bag.”

The unhappy customer quickly complained about her ordeal and is demanding Haribo never repeats its mistake, Hull Live reports.

She continued: “I think it is absolutely disgusting that sweets aimed towards children could contain something like this.

“I am furious at Haribo and we didn't even receive a real apology.

"Haribo have asked us to send the sweets back to them for an investigation but I don't know if I trust them to actually follow through with it. I want them to prove something like this won't happen again."

A spokesperson for Haribo UK said: "We were very sorry to see that Shantelle has had a problem with her latest purchase and would like to share our sincere apologies.

"As a responsible manufacturer, we take all complaints very seriously. Upon receiving the complaint on Monday morning, we immediately shared an apology and a request for the product to be returned.

"Once received, we will be able to conduct a thorough investigation. We can assure Shantelle that we will be looking into this as a matter of urgency and once again would like to express our apologies."
