The Queen intervened to change Prince Louis’ official name as she amended rules

Prince Louis of Cambridge is the youngest child of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

He was born on April 23, 2018, in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London.

On April 27, 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced they would name their child Louis Arthur Charles.

In keeping with tradition, the Queen was already informed of this decision.

A few years before his birth, the Queen made changes to rules which allowed Louis and his siblings to hold a royal title.

His full title is His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge, with his middle names being Arthur and Charles.

But had the Queen not stepped in, he would not have been a Prince.

He would instead have been known as Master Louis Cambridge, after his father’s title.

Alternatively he might have been Master Louis Windsor, after the House of Windsor.

It was King George V who issued a royal proclamation in 1917, setting out who would be entitled to Prince and Princess titles in the Royal Family.

It stated that all the children of the sovereign would be entitled to the title Prince or Princess.

Also, any grandchildren born through the male line would also be Prince or Princess.

This is why the children of the Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, were not given the titles of Prince or Princess.

But Prince Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, were given the titles because they are grandchildren of the monarch through the male line.

Before the birth of William and Kate’s first child in 2013, the Queen changed the royal rules.

She declared that all the children of the eldest child of the Prince of Wales can bear the titles of Prince and Princess.

So their first child, who is heir to the throne, is therefore Prince George.

For the same reason, his sister was also born Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s son Archie Harrison does not fall inside this rule.

He is therefore known as Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
