Prince William left embarrassed by rude 13th birthday gift prank from Diana

Prince William will be hoping for less embarrassing presents than the one Princess Diana bought him when he was 13 as he celebrates his 40th birthday today (June 21).

Previously, the royal admitted Kate Middleton has "never let him forget" the time he got her a pair of binoculars for her birthday.

But the Duke of Cambridge once received an even more bizarre and memorable gift when he was a youngster, according to Diana's former chef Darren McGrady.

The late Princess of Wales apparently decided to prank her eldest son with a rather rude birthday cake.

Inviting supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell to the palace to add to William's embarrassment, Diana presented him with a cake resembling a pair of breasts when he came home from school.

Darren explained that the prank was typical of William's mischievous mother, who Prince Harry once described as "total kid through and through".

The chef told HELLO!: "I came into work that morning and went down to the refrigerator, opened the door and I was just confronted with the biggest pair of boobs I've ever seen in my life. The Princess had ordered a boobs cake for William's 13th birthday.

"The Princess loved embarrassing people in the nicest way, in a fun way, whether it was telling a dirty, risqué joke – which usually got me. William just went bright-red."

The embarrassment was so much that William actually forgot who was there, later telling ITV in an interview that model Cindy Crawford, not Claudia Schiffer, was in on the prank.

Darren, who worked for four years for Diana until her tragic death, also told HELLO! that she was a terrible cook.

He explained that he worked Monday to Friday so had to leave food in the fridge for her over the weekend.

Darren even had to leave notes on the dishes, instructing Diana to "put it in the microwave and press two".
