Passenger splits plane manner debate with ‘selfish’ move during long-haul flight

A passenger has split debate on social media regarding plane manners with what some users have branded a "selfish" move during a long-haul flight.

Adam Butler, 57, was faced with a hair-raisingly awkward situation on Tuesday (November 22) when he was flying back to London from Montreal.

After taking his seat alongside his wife, the Londoner was faced with the female passenger in front's hair draped over the back of her chair, covering his personal TV, the Daily Mirror reports.

He took to Twitter to ask fellow social media users of what he should do next and by the time they had landed in Blighty, he was "astonished" with the "huge number of likes, comments and retweets" it had got.

One user was sympathetic towards the woman and wrote: "I feel for the girl, it's a struggle to have long, thick, curly hair in general, worse on a flight."

Another user however countered her comment and quipped: "Are you kidding me? I have thick curly hair, wore it long for most of my life and have never felt the need or been rude and selfish enough to do this."

Other people also revealed experiencing similar situations on flights, with one saying: "This happened to me on a couple of flights. You could accidentally close the tray table on the hair. Always creates amusement when it's time to disembark."

A second joked: "Had this on a long-haul flight a few months back. Trapping it in the tray works well."

Thankfully, the situation had a peaceful resolution after the fine art and architecture photographer politely pointed out the problem to the lady.

Adam explained: "I asked her politely if she could move her hair as it was covering my screen. She answered very politely and graciously and immediately did so, tying it in a big bun on top of her head. Luckily, it didn’t fall over again throughout the entire seven hour flight!"
