Passenger dies in single-vehicle crash in Aurora; driver suffers life-threatening injuries

A passenger in a single-vehicle crash in Aurora died at a local hospital, police said.

The crash happened at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of South Tower Road and East Girard Avenue, police said in a news release.

The driver, a man, of a gray Dodge Charger was heading south on Tower Road when the vehicle crashed, police said. Excessive speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

The driver and his 20-year-old passenger, a woman, were taken to a local hospital where she died of injuries suffered in the crash. The driver remains at the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. An investigation is ongoing. The incident is the 43rd traffic related fatality in the city in 2022.
