Man jailed for cutting off penis of wife’s lover and keeping it as a ‘souvenir’

A man who admitted hacking off the penis of his wife’s lover with a pair of scissors has been jailed.

Alex Bonilla has been caged for 20 years for the sickening attack which also saw him keep the detached appendage as a “souvenir” of the assault.

He pleaded guilty to the assault in Gilchrist County, Florida and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, plus 10 years probation, after admitting kidnapping and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The attack happened in 2019 several days after Bonilla found his wife cheating on him with the victim.

The 51-year-old went to the victim’s home in the town of Bell with a gun, forced him to into a chair, before cutting off his penis. Gilchrist County officials say Bonilla then ran to his home with the victim’s penis in his possession.

Officers surrounded Bonilla’s home while one drove the victim to a local hospital.

Two children were in the home at the time, but charges of child abuse related to the trauma of the event were dropped.

Bonilla has also been charged more than $250,000 (£179,000) in restitution.

The accused had previously claimed in reports that he had “blacked out” during the savage attack and couldn’t recall what he did.

Bonilla is thought to have lived across the street from the victim, who is married with two young daughters. Bonilla, a father of five who emigrated from El Salvador in 1990, lived with his 35-year-old second wife and the couple’s three young children.

In an interview with a probation officer, Bonilla said that he met with the victim in the man’s home and told him: “You need to stay away from my wife and leave her alone.”

A fight started and the report goes on to say the defendant “blacked out and doesn’t remember anything” until his arrest later that day.

The victim said in his interviews that Bonilla tied his hands behind his back, and told him: “You are not going to die, but you are going to have something to remember this for your whole life.”

Bonilla then pulled down the man’s shorts before saying: “This is normal, you will not die today.”

After putting on a pair of gloves, Bonilla tied a rubber band at the base of the victim’s penis “several times to cut off the circulation.”

He then took out a pair of scissors and said: “This is for all the women you have been having relationships with.” As blood spurted everywhere, Bonilla cut off three-quarters of the victim’s penis.

Before departing with the severed organ, Bonilla warned the victim: “Don’t act this way, this is normal. And if you try to call the police, I will be out in two months and I will come back and finish this.”

The victim, whose penis was not recovered, told the probation officer that, “urinating and the ability to have sex with his wife has been messed up for the rest of his life”.

He added that doctors have told him he “will never have any sensation in his penis again.”
