A judicial investigation began Thursday after police in the northern Front Range plains town of LaSalle shot and killed a 38-year-old man in a vehicle deemed suspicious at a Family Dollar store, authorities said.
The shooting happened Wednesday evening after a person notified the LaSalle Police Department of the suspicious vehicle near the store, a news release from Sgt. Kyle Peltz of the Greeley Police Department said. LaSalle, population 2,359, is about six miles south of Greeley.
Police went to the Family Dollar and encountered the man in the vehicle, Peltz said. “The male subject was shot by police.”
He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. No other information was offered.
Weld County Coroner officials did not identify the man, pending notification of his relatives.
A 19th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team will lead an investigation of the shooting, Peltz said. Anybody with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Mike Prill at 970-350-9532.
