King Charles ‘exasperated’ after Coronation concert joke that’s ‘beneath him’

King Charles was “exasperated” after actor Hugh Bonneville made a joke about him during the Coronation concert at Windsor Castle, according to a top body language expert.

The 59-year-old Paddington actor, who was hosting the massive event, today (May 7) cracked a joke about King Charles in the first few minutes of the Coronation concert.

He said of the king, in front of a crowd of 20,000: “He himself is a painter. An artist; the artist formerly known as Prince.”

While the King is initially seen laughing at the joke, body language expert Adrianne Carter, better known as The Face Whisperer, said that he was clearly "exasperated" by it shortly after he heard it.

“The king was initially surprised and found the joke funny and then went into an eye roll. An eye roll can mean a sign of exasperation and ‘really’ almost as if the joke is beneath him, like a cheap shot in the joke,” she said.

The concert had, at time of publication, just wrapped up and saw the likes of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Nicole Scherzinger and Take That perform for the massive audience on the east lawn of Windsor Castle.

Several celebrities contributed to the two-hour concert, with actors including the next Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa and James Nesbitt performing for the crowd.

It is the first time a concert has been held in the grounds.

While many have travelled from across the country to see the performances, many A-list singers and musicians reportedly declined to perform at the Coronation concert.

Reports have suggested that both Ed Sheeran and Adele declined the invitation, despite King Charles being “very keen” to have both at the concert.

On top of this, Harry Styles, Kylie Minogue and Elton John were also said to have declined offers to perform.
