A drunk man had his legs severed by a train after he fell asleep on railway tracks in Thailand.
The unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, was said to have consumed a bottle of whiskey before he fell asleep on the tracks, on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to the scene, in Nong Prue municipality in the Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri, at around 4.30pm yesterday, and found the man sobbing after his legs had been severed by a passing train.
The man was described as being 'quite intoxicated' by Nong Prue Police, who found an empty bottle of Thai whiskey nearby the scene of the gory accident.

After apparently consuming the bottle of whiskey, and very drunk, the man fell asleep on the railroad tracks, with his legs sprawled over the rail itself and his torso and head on the side of the tracks.
The conductor of the train spotted something on the tracks up ahead, as the train approached, and notified the staff on the train.
Unable to see clearly what was on the tracks they thought it was a log, or something similar, blocking the tracks.

However, local reports suggest that even if they had been able to identify it as a man passed out on the tracks, the train could not have been stopped quickly enough to avoid a collision.
The man was transported to a local hospital, along with his legs, which had both been severed near the knees.
The latest information available says that he is expected to survive, and remains in the hospital after undergoing emergency surgery, but it is unlikely his legs can be reattached.
