Penny Mordaunt took painkillers to help get her through tough Coronation role

Penny Mordaunt has revealed she took painkillers before the King’s Coronation to help her get through her tough role. The MP was tasked with carrying a ceremonial sword throughout most of the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Saturday. As Lord President of the Privy Council Ms Mordaunt received a hos of praise after becoming the first woman to carry the 3.6kg sword for a total of 51 minutes. Reflecting on the day Ms Mordaunt said she used her navy training to help and took painkillers to she sure she was “alright”

The MP for Portsmouth North said it was a “huge privilege” to be a part of the ceremony. 

Writing in the Telegraph she said: “It was a humbling day in every respect. Crowned heads and world leaders were just faces in the congregation.
