Keir Starmer skewered as PM demands he ‘defy his union paymasters’ on schools

PMQs: Boris Johnson shuts down Starmer on safety of schools

Boris Johnson fielded questions from MPs after he announced yesterday than 100,000 Britons have died as a result of COVID-19. Sir Keir Starmer asked the Prime Minister if he realised that many families are angry with homeworking due to lack of facilities. Mr Johnson told MPs: “I do fully understand the impatience and frustration for families across the country who are educating their kids at home.

“I know how frustrated teachers are at home with remote learning as well.

“That’s why we’ve provided 1.3 million laptops, that’s why we’ve provided £1billion catch up fund and I will make a statement on more support for schools.

“But he’s missed his opportunity once again to say what I think people need to hear if we are to get schools to reopen.

“I would like to hear from the leader of the Opposition, in defence of his union paymasters, I would like to hear that schools are safe.”

Sir Keir replied: “Every year the Prime Minister comes with these pre-prepared lines.

“I think when 100,000 people have died he should take the time to answer the question.

“When one in three families are saying they don’t have enough laptops or computers, his answers are simply not good enough.”
